The French actor Clémence Poésy, 34, is best known for her roles in The Tunnel, In Bruges and as Fleur Delacour in the Harry Potter films. In Stanley Tucci’s film of the life of artist Alberto Giacometti she plays opposite Geoffrey Rush and Armie Hammer. She lives in Paris and east London, and earlier this year gave birth to her first child, Liam.

Your character in Final Portrait is Giacometti’s mistress and muse, Caroline. She’s full of life and colour, but is very temperamental and often skittish. How did you want to play her?
I was constantly scared of her being too much. But Stanley had his film very clear in his head, and knew that the story needed that burst of energy at some points. I was quite careful that we had just a minute to show that maybe her life was a bit more complicated and maybe not as happy as it seemed, and maybe a bit tougher. So we had that conversation about having one silent moment that I think brings that world into the film, and makes her a bit layered, I guess.

(…) Philip Treacy worked on Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, making 28 identical hats for schoolgirls from the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, led by Clémence Poésy as Fleur Delacour.

His hats are usually seen on the catwalk rather than on screen, but Treacy said working on the films, which starred Daniel Radcliffe as Harry and Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, had been one of his “happiest” experiences.

“I was asked by Jany Temime, who was the costume designer on a few of the movies, to come up with a design for the Beauxbatons characters,” he said. “It has a very unusual approach to costume because it wasn’t ‘costumey’, it was a combination of contemporary and fantasy and just had a highly unusual styling and language from day one. It was one of the happiest collaborations I’ve ever worked on because it was fun, it wasn’t difficult so it was a fun experience.”

Treacy’s initial sketches, fitting photographs and finished products can be seen as part of the tour’s new feature. Iconic costumes from all eight of the films, including Hermione’s Yule Ball gown, Harry’s school robes and Professor Slughorn’s lilac pyjamas, will be going on display as of July 21.

While Rowling’s headpiece might never be seen in public, Treacy said that she knew exactly what she wanted for the commission.

The author even left her mark in his Battersea studio, with a quick-thinking scrawl of graffiti: “We have a door at work and we get people to sign it. As she was leaving I asked if she’d mind signing it and she wrote ‘Griffin-door’. She’s not JK Rowling for no reason.”

Runs from July 21 to September 4 at Warner Bros Studio Tour London — The Making of Harry Potter

EXCLUSIVE: Vertigo acquires project starring Geoffrey Rush, Armie Hammer and Clémence Poésy.

Vertigo Releasing has acquired Final Portrait, a biopic of Alberto Giacometti directed by Stanley Tucci, for the UK and Ireland.

Geoffrey Rush plays the Swiss painter and sculptor with Armie Hammer and Clémence Poésy co-starring.

Adapted from U.S. writer James Lord’s memoir A Giacometti Portrait, the film offers a window into the chaotic life of the artist in 1960s Paris.

Ed Caffrey from Vertigo Releasing and Nicole Mackey of Hanway Films struck the deal.

The film, a labour of love for Beauty And The Beast and Hunger Games star Tucci, premiered at this year’s Berlin Film Festival.

Vertigo are planning a summer 2017 release to coincide with Tate Modern’s Giacometti retrospective and are exploring opportunities to cross promote.

Gail Egan produces for Potboiler alongside Nik Bower for Riverstone Pictures and Ilann Girard for Arsam International. Riverstone Pictures fully financed the project. Riverstone co-founder Deepak Nayar is executive producer and the film is produced in association with Olive Productions and Lowsun Productions.

Ed Caffrey of Vertigo Releasing said: “Final Portrait is a wonderful film, funny, affecting but also with a depth that draws us into a reflection on the artistic process.”

Hanway’s Nicole Mackey added: “We are so excited that the Vertigo team will be releasing Final Portrait in U.K., coinciding with a unique Giacometti exhibition at the Tate. They join a superb array of world distributors.”
